Trade Groups Playbook

How the RomanLogic Page shows up in UK trade groups for the five November niches: heating, electrical, extensions, kitchens and renovations. Join and read first, then help in the comments, then ask one good question a week. The product only comes up in a DM, after someone has talked to us.

What 7 to 19 October taught us

Keep the questions, drop the self-promotion

13 posts went out across three groups. None of the results were logged (no reactions, comments, engagers or daily rows), so this comes from reading the posts, not from numbers. After 9 October every post to Plumbing students and plumbers UK is marked Skipped.

Borrow

  • Questions about the job, with no product in them: what you ask on the phone before going out, what customers think counts as an emergency, the business side nobody told you about.
  • Polls and "what do you run on?" questions. Easy to answer, and inside every group rule.
  • Reply to every comment within the hour and ask one question back.
  • DM only people who engaged with us, from Roman's account, using the Message Bank scripts.
  • Never argue. If someone says AI answering is rubbish, agree with the fair bit: bots that give out prices are bad.
  • Topics come from the Pain Themes tab, in the trade's own words.

Avoid

  • Posting within days of joining. The plumbing group was marked "not joined yet" on 5 October and we posted there on the 7th.
  • "I build voice agents" or any line about what we sell, in a post or a comment.
  • "Free thing, message the Page" posts, unless an admin has said yes first.
  • The Page telling a personal story as if it were a tradesperson. The Page is a company.
  • Three posts a week in one group. One is plenty.
  • Groups full of apprentices and students. We want owners.
  • Posts that depend on something not built yet (two sat on HOLD for weeks).
  • Not logging. It is the reason we cannot say what worked last time.

Three groups first, four more in week 4

One group per niche cluster, at the pace Lincoln already ran (three groups). The rest of the November list stays on the tab as Comment only, Listen only or Reserve.

The week 1 check, per group

  • Does it accept the Page as a member? If not, skip the group and tell Roman. We never post as a person.
  • The rules, copied word for word into "Group Rules (as seen)".
  • Posts per day and the comments on the last 10 posts. Keep it if it has 5+ posts a day and 4 of the last 10 posts have 3+ owner comments.
  • Who is talking: owners, apprentices or homeowners. Mostly apprentices or homeowners means Listen only.
  • Any sign a company Page has been told off for posting before. Write it in Notes.
Lincoln, about 30 minutes a day

Daily routine

  1. Switch Facebook to the RomanLogic Page.
  2. Reply to anything new on our posts and comments first. Answer, then ask one question back.
  3. On a post day: copy today's post from the Post Calendar exactly as written, post it, set Status to Posted and paste the final text in "Text As Posted".
  4. Comment on 5 to 10 posts across the groups. Like the posts you comment on.
  5. Log it: anyone who engaged goes on FB Engagers today, with profile link and their words pasted exactly. One Daily Log row.
  6. Next day: fill Reactions, Comments and the best 1 to 3 comments word for word for yesterday's post.
Most of the work

Comments: answer properly, never pitch

Good threads to answer: phones, missed calls, quotes going quiet, call-outs, reviews, Google, admin, getting paid. If you do not know, ask a good question back. Never guess and never mention what RomanLogic does. These are examples of the tone, not scripts to paste.

"How do I show up more on Google?"

The Google Business Profile usually matters more than the website for this. Three things help most: the most specific main category you can pick (Electrician, not Contractor), photos from real jobs added every week or two, and asking for a review the day you finish, with the direct link sent by text.

"Missing loads of calls on the tools"

That's the hardest bit of working on your own. Do most of them leave a voicemail, or just ring the next name on Google?

"Got a bad review, what do I do?"

A short, calm public reply does more than the review itself. Thank them, say what you did, and offer to sort it offline. People reading it later look at the reply more than the complaint.

"AI answering is rubbish"

Agree with the fair bit. A bot that quotes prices or books the wrong job is worse than voicemail. Ask what went wrong when they tried it.

Drafts for Rachel to approve

Post questions

One post per group per week from week 3. Each one asks about the trade's own problem and never names a product. They are on the Post Calendar as HOLD until Rachel approves each one. Edit freely.

Electricians' Community UK

Tuesdays
E1Tue 17 NovQuestion
What do you ask on the phone before you go and price a consumer unit change? Age of the house, a photo of the board, whether anyone's done work on it since? Keen to hear what's saved you a wasted visit.

Pain theme 10 (customer misdescribes the job). Borrowed from P5, the phone-questions post.

E2Tue 24 NovPoll
Where are most of your new customers coming from at the moment?
Word of mouthGoogleCheckatrade, MyBuilder or similarFacebook or Instagram

Pain theme 6 (paying lead sites). An easy tap, and the comments show who pays for leads.

E3Tue 1 DecQuestion
EV charger enquiries. How many actually turn into an install? Feels like a lot of people ring round for a figure and then go quiet. Do you give a rough idea on the phone, or only after a survey?

Pain theme 3 (quotes ghosted, time wasters).

E4Tue 8 DecQuestion
Halfway through a rewire and the phone goes. What do you do? Answer it, let it ring, or ring everyone back at the end of the day?

Pain theme 1 (missed calls on the tools). The closest we get to our own subject, so it goes last, once the Page is known in the group.

Builders' Talk Group

Wednesdays
B1Wed 18 NovQuestion
How many quotes do you reckon you price up to win one extension? And do you charge for the first visit or the drawings, or is it all free until they sign?

Pain theme 3 (quotes ghosted, time wasters), the most common complaint we found.

B2Wed 25 NovPoll
What eats more of your evening?
Pricing up quotesInvoices and chasing paymentRinging customers backOrdering and chasing materials

Pain theme 4 (evenings lost to admin). P3 never ran, so it is untested.

B3Wed 2 DecQuestion
Customers who go quiet after a quote. Do you chase them, or let them go? If you chase, how many times before you call it a day?

P4 with the free-thing offer taken out.

B4Wed 9 DecQuestion
Kitchen fitters in here: how many visits before you've got a deposit? Measure, design chat, re-measure, changes. Where do most jobs fall through?

The kitchens niche, inside a builders' group, until we find a fitters' group.

Gas101

Thursdays
H1Thu 19 NovQuestion
What do you ask on the phone before you head out to a breakdown? Make and model, a photo of the display, the fault code? Anything that's saved you a wasted trip or a second visit for parts.

P5, which never ran, moved to an owners' group.

H2Thu 26 NovPoll
First proper cold spell. What's filling the diary most?
BreakdownsServicesInstallsLandlord certs

Pain theme 11 (feast or famine), in its peak season.

H3Thu 3 DecQuestion
What's the best "it's an emergency" call you've had that really wasn't? And the other way round: the one that sounded small and turned out serious?

P6, which never ran. Stories get the most comments.

H4Thu 10 DecQuestion
When a customer says "it just needs a quick look", how often is it actually quick? Do you charge the call-out regardless, or take it on the chin?

Pain themes 10 and 4. No figures, so no price talk.

Wave 2 bank

For the four week 4 groups, first posts from 7 Dec
G1Owner groups onlyQuestion
What's the one thing about the business side you wish someone had told you before you went self-employed? Not the tools side. The phones, the quotes, getting paid.

P2 ran in the plumbing group just before it went quiet. Use it only in a group made for owners (UK Trades Business Owners, Off The Tools), never one full of apprentices.

G2Any wave 2 groupPoll
How do most new enquiries reach you now?
Phone callText or WhatsAppFacebook or Instagram messageWebsite form

Shows which channel matters to each trade.

G3Any wave 2 groupQuestion
Do you ring people back in the evening, or does it all wait until the morning? Ever lost a job because of it?

Pain themes 1 and 4.

G4Any wave 2 groupQuestion
What do you do with the work phone when you're on holiday? Diverted, switched off, someone covering, or answering it on the beach?

A light one, good before Christmas.

From comment to conversation

When someone engages

  1. Who counts: someone who commented on or reacted to our post, replied to our comment, or messaged the Page. A group member who never spoke to us never gets a DM.
  2. Lincoln logs them on FB Engagers the same day: profile link, group, and their words pasted exactly.
  3. Roman sends message 1 from his own account, using the Message Bank's "Facebook (Roman personal)" stage 1 script that fits. It quotes their words and says nothing about what we do.
  4. Only after a real reply, Roman sends stage 2: the phone side for trades, aiming for a 15 minute call. No prices, no links in message 1.
  5. If they message the Page, Lincoln answers politely and tells Roman. Never send prices, links or phone numbers from the Page.

Stop rules

  • A post removed, a comment declined, a warning from an admin, or a mute: stop all activity in that group. Paste the admin's exact words into the group's Notes, and add a Daily Log row under "Account Warnings".
  • Any Facebook security check or warning on the Page: stop everywhere and message Roman the same day.
  • Tell Rachel and Roman the same day. Do not rejoin, appeal or post again until they say so.
Every Friday, with the Instagram analysis

Friday review

Per group: comments made, replies to our comments, posts made, reactions and comments on each post, engagers logged, DMs sent, replies to DMs, and any warnings. One line on which post did best and why. After week 6, drop any group with no engagers and swap in the next from the November list.
